A very sad day for me
I learned last night that a friend I've known and loved for over 20 years died yesterday. She was one of the gentlest, kindest souls I've ever met. She loved old movies, gardening, cooking and playing games. She wasn't big on sports, and was known to call a softball uniform a 'playsuit' after "accidentally" dying it pink. That didn't go over very well! When I first met her, she had this scruffy mutt of a dog named Totem. She had rescued this tiny scared puppy from behind the dryer in her apartment complex. Totem, even as a small puppy (who would later grow to weigh at least 50 lbs!) had been badly abused, and would always be hesitant of new people for as long as I knew her. I had gone to meet Totem because Karin needed a housesitter. Karin was telling me that normally when she went out of town, Totem would lick herself bald due to stress, and that Totem didn't like strangers. So I walked in slowly, so not to alarm Totem. Karin and I were standing in the kitchen, talking. After about a minute, Totem walked over to me, laid down and rolled over and let me rub her belly. Karin and I were friends then and there. I had a dream about Totem a few weeks ago. I'm hoping that somewhere, somehow Karin and Totem are reunited and having a great time playing!
