Would you do this?

So I work in an inbound call center. Admittedly there are times when we get swamped and people sit on hold waiting to get thru. The other day though we were fairly slow, with about 3-5 minutes between calls. So I get a call and go thru our scripted spiel, asking for their name and account number. I can hear noises on the other end of the line, but no one answers. We have to give the customer a couple of minutes in consideration of those times when they are sitting on hold forever. So I go thru my spiel 3 or 4 more times and then wait. Finally a woman gets on the phone and says "Oh! Are you there? I called in, then put the phone down."
