So I saw Serena Williams having her meltdown after a line judge called a foot fault. I honestly can't tell if it was a foot fault or not. But even if it was a bad call I don't think that justifies Serena threatening to shove balls down the line judge's throat. Besides being a very poor sport and unprofessional, when did threatening violence become the first response if someone does or says something we don't agree with? When did violence become so accepted in our society? Domestic violence, child abuse, cruelty to animals.....if your first response is to think in violent ways is it that much of a step from thought to action? There's a quote I've heard that says watch your thoughts because your thoughts soon become actions. And it seems like there's a lot of scary thoughts out there.
And of course there are those out there that believe that race is the only reason why the call was made. And that a foot fault should not be called at that point of the match. Which brings up a pet peeve of mine with professional sports (mainly in the NBA, but it happens in other sports as well). If something is a foul in the first quarter, why should it not be called a foul at the end of the game? And if it's a foul if Joe Blow does it, why is it not a foul if Mr. Superstar commits the same infraction? Drives me nuts!
