Is it any wonder that I usually prefer the company of animals to humans?
At a deli in New York City, a worker apparently got bitten by the owner's cat and had an adverse reaction to the cat's saliva. I get that. I know that cat bites can get infected. But I don't understand why the worker feels he's entitled to 5 million dollars in damages. That is the amount that he is suing for. And the sad part is that he will probably win. Maybe I better start keeping the Pipster inside.
I just saw a story about the man accused of doing the shooting at Fort Hood. Apparently in his eyes, his religion doesn't have a problem with him killing people, or going to strip clubs. I've also heard that he might have been on the government's radar for some of his Internet writings on suicide bombers. I don't think I have a good answer on when I want government stepping in. If someone had stepped in, could this have been avoided? How do we balance the rights of the individual and/or public safety? At what point do we want our government to act like big brother and try to step in to avoid violence/bloodshed? Or do we? I don't know. I don't know where the line is, or even if there should be one. Could we have avoided 9/11? Could we have stopped the shooting at Ft. Hood? Is that what we want our government doing?
