I'm not sure how this fits together

I've seen a story about a church that is trying to get kids off the street by introducing them to cage fighting. I'm all for getting kids off the street. But I'm not sure that teaching them that violence is okay is the best way to do that. I know that cage fighting has tons of devoted fans and followers, but I've never seen the attraction of a sport (like boxing) where the sole goal seems to be to beat someone into submission. And how does the church figure into this? I guess part of my problem or concern with this is that we already seem to have enough people more than willing to use their religion to justify violence and murder in the name of their god. Do we really want another church telling its followers that violence is okay? Even encouraging our kids to participate in violence? This makes me uncomfortable on several layers. If the church wants to get kids off the street, why not offer them a safe environment? One that teaches how to work/play with others in a more (in my opinion) constructive way? Why not a team sport like basketball or baseball? Or give the kids a place to hang out and have fun by providing free internet or games like WII? Why not try to teach them that there are other ways to deal with the world than a violent way?

I spent the other day at home with the Pipster. She's the only cat I've ever had that will start purring when I just talk to her, and stop purring when I stop talking. So the other day, she went outside to take care of her outdoor kitty duties. While she was gone, I put some catnip out for her. So I hear her come in thru her window, then I see her come bounding straight for me. Until she gets to the catnip. Then she stops dead in tracks, does a quick U-turn, and proceeds to inhale the catnip. Only then did she come see her mom. Guess I know where I rate!
