My best friend's brother died this past week. He was younger than me. He'd been fighting cancer, so his death wasn't unexpected. But it's still hard to try to prepare yourself for the loss.
He wanted to be cremated, then have his ashes spread out in space. I'm hoping that someday that wish will be fulfilled. I think I want my ashes spread in the ocean.
My friend's family has a deep faith and takes great comfort from their church. I'm glad that their faith gives them some comfort, some peace. Family members came in to attend the memorial service.
So, for those of you who might be interested (you know who you are! At least I hope you do!) I don't think that a service held in a church would be the best choice for my service. Of course, there is the train of thought that since the service is to not only remember but to offer comfort to the ones left behind, that they should hold the service in a place of comfort for them. But if you want to hold my service in place of comfort for me, there should be lots of animals around (and not in cages). And if it happens to be close to water, that wouldn't hurt either! Some people find comfort from their faith, some from family and friends. But those that know me know that I've always been more comfortable with animals than humans.
