It's too hot!!

I'm so ready for it to cool down. We've hit at least 90 degrees the past 2 days. Steve Pool from KOMO 4 news says hitting 90 degrees 2 days in a row has only happened 12 times before in Seattle history. And it sounds like we'll hit 90 tomorrow too. I didn't hear how many times Seattle has been 90 degrees 3 days in a row.

I just read an article about some of the Michael Vick dogs. There were some of the dogs that were so traumatized that the trainers/handlers called them "pancake" dogs. The "pancake" dogs had gone thru so much that whenever a human came toward them, the dogs would lay down as flat as they could, as see to make themselves invisible. Luckily the trainers are patiently working with these dogs to rebuild trust and security in the dogs.

But the true miracle to me is that so far 2 of the Vick dogs have made so much progress that they are now certified therapy dogs. One works with with kids to help them learn to read. The other one works with elderly folks. How amazing is the capacity of dogs to forgive and move on and still want to help humans. I wish that humans had much more of this trait. Then there might not be any more "Michael Vick" or "pancake" dogs in the world.

For those interested, there will be a book coming out next month about the Vick dogs. It's called "The Lost Dogs". I will probably have someone screen it for me, because I couldn't read it if it centers on the abuse and not the therapy that that the dogs have received, and the progress that the dogs have made. Any volunteer screeners out there??

If you know of anyone (other than me!) that is looking to adopt kitties, the NOAH animal shelter in Arlington is trying to receive a $100,000.00 grant, and part of qualifying for the grant is how many kitties they can adopt between now and the end of the year. I think the adoption fee is cut in half, and if I understand right, if you adopt one kitty at half price, the second kitty is free. The kitties are microchipped, have whatever shots they need and you also get a certificate for a free wellness vet check.

That's where my friends got the newest family addition Lilia, who is much too smart! My friends and I were sitting at the table playing cards last night. I had earlier been playing the sering game with Lilia, so I had her string in my pocket. So as I was sitting there, I could feel her little paws kind of patting my leg. So I reached down to pet her, thinking that's what she wanted. That's when I realized that she didn't want me to pet her. She had already managed to pull the string about half way out of my pocket, the little sneak!! I'm not sure what she was going to do with it, but she sure knew what she wanted!

I hope everyone survives the heat. And please make sure that your furry friends have someplace cool to stay and have plenty of water to drink.
