Where is the world headed to?

I read that the Seattle Housing and Resource Effort (SHARE) is going to have to close 11 of its 15 homeless shelters due to lack of funding. These closures would effect up to 400 people, according to the KING 5 homepage. Funds have been in shorT supply for the last 2 years. So in 2 yeaRs we couldn't come up with funds to help homeless people right here? Yes, I know some homeless people may to some extent choose that life. But I'm more concerned with people families that have lost their jobs and homes due to the economy. (and don't get me started on all the pets being effected because people can no lomger afford to keep them. I read somewhere that down in areas effected by the oil spill, population at the animal shelters are up almost 200%). The weather in our area is okay for now, but winter is coming. Where will these people go then? And how many more people will be homeless by then?

I jst heard on FOX news that some areas of Spain are trying to stop the "sport" of bullfighting. According to a recent poll, close to 70% of people in Spain are against bullfighting, but are still opposing a ban that a region in the northeastern part of Spain is trying to put into effect.

Sounds like the situation we have here in the US with the illegal immigration law thar Arizona is trying to put into effect. Most of the polls and comments I've seen/heard is that most of Americans are in favor of tougher laws, or tougher enforcement of existing laws. But it seems like the minority is winning the battle, at least in the courts.

There's a case going on in Tacoma. A woman has had 2 children removed from her care. She was accused of starving them (one of them was under six months old at the time, if I remember right.) She was/is afraid they would become fat. Apparently she gave the infant laxative in the baby's formula during a recent visit. She is pregnant again and was recently admitted to the hospital because she wasn't eating enough to keep herself and her unborn baby healthy. She is in court now facing criminal charges. CPS can't do anything for her unborn baby. At what point should society step in and force someone to do something "for their own good"? Or in this case, for the good of the baby? I don't know.

Along the lines of imposing one's views or values on someone else....In Texas a bus driver was fired because he refused to take a passenger to Planned Parenthood because he was afraid she might get an abortion. This falls in with pharmacies who refuse to give out the morning after pill. Where does is the line when your job requires you to do something you're morally opposed to? I don't have a clue.
