I guess I'm a little naive. I didn't realize that in some areas of this country are still banning books in the classroom. I learned this when I read an article about some people wanting to change or rewrite some of Mark Twain's work. Apparently some of the words in "Tom Sawyer" offend or make some people uncomfortable. So we'll just take those words out, and put in some other word so that we don't feel uncomfortable. Who's next? Shakespeare? Poe? Christie? The Bible?
So some words make some people uncomfortable. Banning books and wanting to alter someone's voice to match your own, that's what makes me uncomfortable. This just FEELS wrong to me. What has happened to freedom of speech? Some news reports are saying that the people in Tucson were shot because of their political views.
When did diversity and differences become things to avoid and/or destroy? If those words offend you, don't read them or listen to them. But don't take away my right to be exposed to different points of view. I don't want everyone to think or feel the same way I do. How boring would that be?
You have a right to ignore or avoid things that you don't like. But you don't have the right to take those things away from me.
