Good idea or bad?

I just read about a Danish website supposedly set up to help stop domestic violence. I just tried to log on to see for myself, but got a message that said due to extremely high traffic, only Danish people can access the site. So, this is what I read about the site.

The web address is: http://www.hitthebitch.com/.

The view of the graphics that I did see showed the head and shoulders of a woman with what looked like a black eye and possible face contusions. Also in the picture was a masculine looking hand from like the forearm down. Apparently when you go to the web site you can control the hand and make it hit the woman. It sounds like after you hit the woman so many times, she falls or collapses. The game is apparently over then and your stats are scrolled across the screen with the message: "You are an idiot!" And this message is meant to let people know that hitting a woman (or anyone) is stupid.

And this is a website that wants to discourage domestic violence. Maybe I'm missing something here. And I could be, since I was not able to get into the website. If anyone can or does, I would love to know how accurate the article that I read was. But even the name of the website is offensive to me. And all the time that you are "hitting" the woman, there's no negative message, nothing to say that this is wrong. Only after the woman is down are you told that you're an idiot. And even being called an idiot......that seems all to much like the slap on the hand that so many abusers seem to receive.

I guess it seems to me that making domestic violence look anything like a game to be taken lightly is the wrong approach. And yes, I know that there are those of you out there thinking that if a woman is in an abusive relationship, why doesn't she just leave. How many women have left? Have gotten a restraining order? And died anyway? It seems like using violence, even if only in cyberspace, to discourage violence is a backward approach.

But on a totally happier note, my friends have adopted a 9 week old kitten from NOAH, a no kill shelter up in (I think) Arlington. I got to meet her today and she is darn cute. Apparently on the way home from NOAH one of them made the comment that Pip is no longer the cutest cat around. Now I wasn't around to defend my Pip then, but Miss Pip will always be the cutest girl in my mind! But kittens are a lot of fun. No name has been decided yet, but she did fall asleep on me tonight and she was dreaming. I love to watch animals dream! Her little paws were going and her whiskers were twitching. Not as cute as Pip, but admittedly, pretty darn close!
