I just saw a story on CNN about 2 gay men who decided they wanted to have a baby. So they decided which one would donate the sperm, then went in search of an egg donor. They found one. The film crew followed the men to the airport as they went to pick up the egg donor. According to the reporter, the egg donor was asked by her employer to use only her first name for the story because the employer knew that she was giving/selling (she got $8,000 for her eggs) to two gay men. I can almost, almost understand why an individual might have reservations about a gay couple being parents. I get that some people have religious/moral beliefs against homosexuality. But an employer? I wonder if she would had been fired or disciplined if she did allow her name to be used? Does an employer have right to impose/demand that an employee have certain views? I'm not sure.
The other story that made me wonder was about a college (I'm sorry, I honestly can't remember the name of the college, but I did see this story on the ABC national news with Diane Sawyer) who decided that the athletic department needed to make some cuts. So what did they do? They cut the women's volleyball team. But they did add another "sport" to replace it. The sport they chose? Cheer leading. So no longer can a woman get a volleyball scholarship at this college. But women might soon be able to get a cheer leading scholarship. Somehow that just doesn't sound right to me.
